| First draft poster |
Here is my first draft of my film poster for 'FIGURE'. I wanted to conform to the convention of a 'final girl', so I have featured Demi's face as a close up. With some Photoshop editing, I enhanced her lips to make them more red, removed her blemishes and touched up her make up. By doing this, I made her into the perfect, untouched survivor. However, this also adds an element of 'damsel in distress' to the film as she is made to look fragile and pristine, therefore vulnerable and in danger. By having the threat (mannequin) behind her, means that the audience can see it but perhaps the leading lady isn't aware of the threat being so close. I have blurred the background and also put a fading in black gradient layer coming from the right to further distort the background. I think this adds an element of mystery to the poster as the mannequin is half hidden. Also, having a gradient layer means that the title is more visible and clear. The slightly blurred effect of the title conforms to the sci-fi side to the film as it is has an aura about it, giving the impression that the threat is not from this world. The tagline stretches all the way across the bottom of the title, which I think works quite well as it balances out the title. It looks like a ghostly line below the title, but reinforces the title at the same time.

| First draft magazine cover |
For my magazine, I wanted to include the antagonist on the main cover, as that is what the audience will recognise the film by primarily. I wanted to also reflect the pure white colour with the masthead, as this balanced out the whole piece. I also wanted to include red in the colour scheme as there are many connotations attached to horror and fear and danger. Having three stories each side helps balance the image, and putting them on transparent boxes helps the text become more visible. However, I feel that some of it gets lost and doesn't stand out as much as it should do. I'm looking to improve this by possibly changing the font etc.
